Prepare Your Workplace and Employees

Preparedness-Backpack for your workplace:

From CPR, first aid and automated external defibrillator (AED) training to injury prevention courses, blood-borne pathogens training and community disaster preparedness education, Red Cross training offers complete, flexible programs that help your company stay prepared for virtually any life-threatening situation. First Aid/CPR/AED training courses combine lecture, demonstrations and video with hands-on training in a 'practice-while-you-watch' format. And because the American Red Cross is a member of the OSHA Alliance, you can be sure your employees are receiving the highest quality information and training available to help prevent injuries, illnesses and fatalities in the workplace.

Build the program that works for your business using our modular curriculum. Contact your local Red Cross chapter for more information.

Commuter Safety:

In today's world, it's more important than ever to be prepared for emergencies. They can occur quickly and without warning, so planning is a crucial first step toward a calm and effective response. The American Red Cross has worked with the U.S. Department of Transportation/Federal Transit Administration and the American Public Transit Association to develop information to help you prepare for emergencies while commuting.

Planning & Contact Information:

  • Plan on how your family will stay in contact if separated.
  • Make sure people close to you know how to reach you and you know how to reach them.
  • Designate an out-of-town friend or relative to be the contact point for your family.
  • In an emergency, it may be easier to call long distance as local phone lines may become overloaded.
  • Write down your contact information and encourage each member of your family to do the same.
  • Keep it current and keep it with you. Information may include:
  • Your transit system telephone number and Web site address
  • Local transit police (non-emergency).
  • Local transit police emergency number.
  • Your local American Red Cross chapter telephone number and Web side address.
  • Your emergency phone number.
  • Family emergency phone numbers.
  • An out-of-town contact: Name and phone number.
  • Your family emergency meeting place.

Train Your Employees

Thank you for your continued support of the American Red Cross in your workplace safety training programs. You've made a commitment to the health and safety of your employees by providing them with lifesaving training that prepares them to respond to an emergency at your workplace.

The American Red Cross has developed several tools to help you promote training opportunities to your employees to ensure that when an injury, illness or disaster strikes, your employees are prepared to save a life.

Promotional Materials:

Promotional materials for workplace health and safety programs are available at little or no cost from your local Red Cross chapter or can be downloaded from our Web site.  These e-sheets can be sent to your employees via e-mail to encourage them to enroll in an upcoming first aid and CPR course that your company is hosting. Because they are MS-Word documents, these e-sheets can be customized with the date and time of the training.

Preparedness Information When It's Needed Most:

Get the facts you need - before, during, and after a disaster or emergency situation. As the nation's preeminent preparedness and safety training organization, the American Red Cross developed the following emergency-specific checklists using the latest research, science, best practices and expert opinion.
